This tweet from a Charlotte, NC news anchor grabbed my attention. Christina Watkin’s honesty about her resolve and her faith is unmistakable. Her statement is a simple yet, classic example of how faith and resolve go hand in hand. See if you agree.

Last month, I shared my guest post “Hope for the Sidetracked Heart.” However, I wanted to offer some balance. As I wondered about what kudos to give to the sincere heart, I saw Christina’s tweet! It reminded me it takes courage to say our faith musings out loud. A sincere heart seizes the opportunity.

I don’t know Christina personally, but I do know the challenge she faced that day. Sometimes I need the resolve to walk by pizza too (or some other temptation). When I have a healthy dose of sincerity, it keeps me walking by faith.

When you set a worthy goal, where do you get your strength?

When I’m duped by self-sufficiency, I try to do things on my own. But when my spiritual sense prevails, I rely on the strength of the Lord (hence, my new favorite hash tag #JesusHelpMe). As I rely on His strength, I can’t help but win.

This principle is in the pizza tweet too. I believe #TheseAlmondsWillDo begs for further discussion. Did you see all those pizza boxes? The smell of hot crust and melted cheese must have followed Christina all around the newsroom that day. But she chose to allow the almonds to satisfy her instead.

This sounds a lot like God’s grace to me.

The sincerity of my heart appears when I’m completely satisfied with the choices from His heart. That’s not always as simple as almonds. Life can be complicated but when I’m content with what He offers, I experience His strength even in my “painful moments.”

As we aim for consistency in our sincerity, here’s some good news: the pendulum of our heart may swing but the faithfulness of God never will. Thanks for the inspiration Christina. Here’s to you and to any sincere heart reading this blog. Keep seeking Him and may you always have hope in your heart and joy to your soul.

“Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” – 2 Corinthians 10:9 NLT
