Timing is everything. It’s a familiar saying, but is it true? You decide.

Meet Joseph (again or for the first time). God gave him two dreams showing his inevitable rise. But in the midst of discovering his destiny, he had non-stop family drama. It begins in Genesis 37.

Life was a mixed bag for Joseph. He was his father’s favorite son and his brothers’ favorite person to give a hard time. In one of his dreams, other bundles of wheat bowed to Joseph’s bundle. And yet, another dream showed the sun, moon and eleven stars bowing to him too.

Lots of bowing for sure. Few details of when.

As Joseph told his family about his destiny, they were less than excited. You see, his family was the wheat bundles and the sun, moon and stars.

Finally, his brothers’ jealousy grew in their hearts until they had no room left to love Joseph. They faked his death and sold him into slavery.

Now, I hurt for him.

Joseph interpreted his dreams correctly, but did he miss the timing?

After all, timing is everything — at least according to the old adage.

Timing is certainly essential to the framework for earth’s activity. However, anything that creates a sense of urgency or announces a season of favor can feel like everything to us.

Our desires, ambitions, problems and purpose can make us feel like everything must happen now.

And yet, the passage of time can filter through anything allowing us to see Christ, the One who holds all things together (Colossians 1:15-17).

Ultimately, time is a tool in God’s hands. It highlights and holds the movement for divine agenda. But Joseph was no ordinary Joe. As he welcomed God’s agenda, he also welcomed His timing.

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT

Is God’s timing challenging you as you wait for a season to arrive?

What would happen if, like Joseph, He showed you an amazing inevitable outcome?

I get excited when He shows me a glimpse of my destiny or whispers one of His  promises. But such news comes with responsibility. And responsibility creates pressure; because until we can stand the pressure, it’s hard to walk in the promise.

"Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end." - Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT

Any pressure from not knowing the details of God’s plan is relieved by trusting in the faithfulness of His love. The Maker of beautiful is always at work. Underneath life’s stresses and in the midst of our pain, God is making something beautiful for you and for me.

Now, I’m learning from Joseph.

After a series of what seemed like malicious mishaps over the years, Joseph rose to his rightful place. He was reunited with his family and yes, he received their respectful bows.

His rise and their reunion came just in time. (See Genesis 41 – 46)

I love when a plan comes together. However, it’s impossible for us to see the whole scope of God’s plan . Yet, doubt may cause our eyes to strain — especially, if the fulfillment of a vision is delayed or an unwanted disruption appears.

But the eyes of faith allows us to see something else: When Jesus is our Everything, we can learn how to wait for anything with hope for the heart and joy to the soul.
