A mentor in our lives makes a difference. In them, we see a kindred soul with wisdom pouring from their heart. In us, they see an eager soul needing a nudge in the right direction. I received the nudge. And the more I gave my heart to God, the more I sensed His purpose loading.

I met my first mentor, Andrea, in a basement cafeteria on my college campus. That was over three decades ago. But in time, I came to know the significance of why and where we met. Through Andrea, God brought an experienced soul to my newly believing heart. She was on staff with a campus ministry and discipleship became our bond. Our meeting in the basement cafeteria was symbolic.
Sometimes we meet a mentor when our lives are at ground zero. Weโve hit rock bottom of a broken dream or struggle to find the first step toward a cherished goal. Hence, mentoring is an empowering relationship. Wisdom is shared and seeds of encouragement are sown into a willing and teachable soul.
From a biblical perspective, the focus and desire of a mentorโs heart is โFollow my example, as I follow the example of Christโ (1 Corinthians 11:1 NIV). It is the privilege of joining God where He is at work in someone…click here to continue reading.
