…And Then There Was One

Affirmation
Some experiences need time to settle before I see their full significance. This was the case as I attended the She Speaks conference this past weekend. It was my second time attending the event hosted by Proverbs 31 Ministries. The trek never disappoints. Women who lead, write, or speak gather...

Avoiding the Comparison Trap

Affirmation,  Sidetracked or Sincere?
In a world of many options, it’s hard to resist making comparisons. Seeking similarities or determining superiority seems endless. In most cases, my analysis is fairly harmless: comparing pasta to rice, one route to another, or capris to a skirt. However, sometimes my mental match-ups completely fail. This is often...

Grace in Tight Places

Affirmation,  Uncategorized
As my family and I traveled to attend my dad’s funeral, I dealt with an unpleasant reminder — grief can feel restrictive.  Losses of any kind can minimize our blessings in the present and limit our view of the future.  The echo of this feeling followed me through my experiences...

How do you define success?

Joy

Affirmation
My recent conversation with a friend turned into a summit on success. We talked about the fear of success, the signs of success, and ultimately, how God defines it. The desire to succeed is innate. In its simplest form it means to prosper, thrive, or flourish. But realizing this goal...

Affirmation,  Sidetracked or Sincere?
This tweet from a Charlotte, NC news anchor grabbed my attention. Christina Watkin’s honesty about her resolve and her faith is unmistakable. Her statement is a simple yet, classic example of how faith and resolve go hand in hand. See if you agree. That painful moment when you give up...

Fixer Upper

Affirmation
My latest television show indulgence is HGTV’s Fixer Upper hosted by Chip and Joanna Gaines. In a crowded field of home improvement shows, the Fixer Upper premise is a standout. Chip and Joanna “take the worst house in the best neighborhood and turn it into their client’s dream home.” The...

The Beauty of Almost

Joy

Affirmation
I’ve almost done many things. I almost kept my patience while waiting in traffic the other day. I almost met my goal of avoiding last-minute shopping. And I almost didn’t write a blog post this week. In each case I debated an alternate solution in my mind. While stuck in...

The gaps in our potential

Joy

Affirmation
Promising. It’s the word that comes to mind when we sense the potential of a person, an opportunity, or a place. The promise lies in the possibility that with a few wise steps, proper timing, or some elbow grease the diamond in the rough can become a dazzling gem. But...

As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my one-word. Alignment. But aligning with God’s will is a lifelong process of following Christ’s teachings by putting His will above my own. After all, alignment involves making adjustments so that something functions optimally within its intended design.

Surprisingly, my one word was both an invitation and an illumination. In my last post on the blog this year, I'm sharing lessons learned and the inspiration I found by God's grace. I pray you'll find encouragement in "5 Ways to End (or begin) the Year with Joy!" (Link in profile)

Abundant blessings to you and yours in the #newyear!

Is there something you’re counting on this Christm Is there something you’re counting on this Christmas?

Maybe you’re hoping for some time off work.

Perhaps you have travel plans or guests are traveling to spend time with you.

Some people are hoping to have a simple celebration.

And yet, others are busy preparing for festivities that no one will forget.

But for the Christ child’s parents, Mary and Joseph, what may have felt like a complication was really God’s invitation for them to experience His plan. (Luke 2:1-7)

Hence, the Advent season is more than a countdown to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Because He came, God no longer counts our sins against us as we receive Christ’s salvation. (2 Corinthians 5:19-21) There’s something to be sure of. But the Advent also points us to remember Jesus is coming again. (Matthew 24:23-31) This Christmas, may we each experience Him in the ways we need Him the most. #Advent #Christmas #christmastime🎄 #liveyourjoystory #joytothesoul
This crystal cross hangs near the top of our famil This crystal cross hangs near the top of our family Christmas tree. It’s a reminder of the reason for the Christ child’s birth. Redemption.

But as much as I love Christmas, I also remain amazed at how there’s so little I can be certain of from year to year. Between our news feeds, and the ups and downs of our hopes and dreams, it may be tempting to keep our expectations low. But the reason for the season is also the reason for great certainty.

It's the latest topic on the blog, because there is something we can be sure of this #Christmas!🎄 #joytothesoul #liveyourjoystory (Link in profile)

This verse highlights a radical reality: God chooses closeness over distance. Jesus didn’t just visit humanity — He dwelled here. To listen to the podcast see #linkinprofile. #joytothesoul
