In Difficult Times,  Live Your Joy Story
In my quest for living a joyful life, there is a surprise when hard things come. Scripture puts it this way: β€œConsider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” (James 1:2‭ NIV). Wait a minute, James. Facing many kinds of trials puts me...

Living With Purpose
The second month of the year holds a special meaning for me. February boasts the blessings of love, legacy, and little things. As a salute to Valentine’s Day, retailers provide an avalanche of all things romantic. Images from ad campaigns or memories within our hearts announce love is grand. However,...

The Wishes That Make Us Better

Live Your Joy Story,  Living With Purpose,  Prayer Life
A common theme in fairytales involves three wishes. They are given to anyone who finds a genie in a bottle or a certain object with special powers. But at some point, the recipient makes a blunder. They waste a wish (or two) and end up being worse off than before...

Whatever life looks like in this moment, we’re invited to look at God. Knowing that He loves us or how His wisdom guides us can be the difference between lingering in self-defeat or learning how to thrive. Whether we are consistent in spending time with God or looking for a...

Live Your Joy Story,  Living With Purpose
In addition to its focus on Valentine’s Day, February offers me a focus on legacy. As a descendant of enslaved Africans who never forgot their significance, I celebrate Black History month. We each have a story shaped by where we come from, what we’ve come through, and where we are...

How will you let your light SHINE?

Live Your Joy Story,  Living With Purpose
As a child, the lyrics β€œThis little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine” gave me a goal. Singers of the song are familiar with committing to shining β€œall in their home, on their jobs,” or in any other place they feel their shine matters. The song’s positive...

A Mentoring Heart Matters

Living With Purpose,  Relationships
A mentor in our lives makes a difference. In them, we see a kindred soul with wisdom pouring from their heart. In us, they see an eager soul needing a nudge in the right direction. I received the nudge. And the more I gave my heart to God, the more...

In Difficult Times,  Live Your Joy Story
On a recent trip to the grocery store, a lovely arrangement of pumpkins greeted me at the door. Once I was inside, pumpkin pecan oatmeal made its way into my shopping cart. A few more steps and displays later, it was obvious. I was in the middle of a pumpkin...

When I shop, boho jewelry and anything denim have When I shop, boho jewelry and anything denim have a magnetic pull on my purse strings. But about a year ago, something different drew me in. A mug with its soft edges and soft ecru color featured 3 words. Pray. Wait. Trust.

As it pulled on my heart strings, the magnet worked. I quickly placed the mug in my cart and made my way to the cashier. I looked forward to drinking from the cup and considering each word β€” one sip at a time. But a closer look took me beyond my cup. These 3 words made me reflect on the life of Christ.

Reflections of His life and how it impacts ours is often the focus during this Lenten season. But we can reap the benefits of reflecting on Jesus any day of the year.

Join me on the blog this week and discover what can happen: "Growing Our Faith One Sip at a Time" (an invitation from me and my mug). πŸ’•

When we lean into God's calling, we still have to When we lean into God's calling, we still have to learn His way to live in the privilege of what He calls us to do.

It's great when we connect with people who seek to do the same. It happened at the "God's Call, God's Way Prayer Breakfast" yesterday!

I'm grateful for an awesome time of prayer, fellowship, and reflection. We were tremendously blessed by praise and worship led by @deborahmooremusic.

Thanks so much to those who attended and for those who prayed for our gathering!πŸ™πŸ½πŸ’• #joytothesoul #liveyourjoystory
