How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me! Psalms 139:17-18 NLT
If you’ve ever been to the beach, you know sand gets into everything. From between my fingers to the bottom of my beach bag, I feel its grit in every crevice.
However, the psalmist said God’s thoughts of him outnumber the grains of sand. I believe that’s true for us too. I imagine each thought filled with Christ’s redemption, ready to reveal His glory. And like the grains of sand in my beach bag, I believe He wants His truth to get into every crevice of our character and our concerns.
Whether it’s a minor issue or our greatest challenge, whatever is on our minds, God’s got a plan.
For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. - Jeremiah 29:11 AMP
His plan often surprises me. It includes elements I’d rather avoid or gifts I don’t deserve. But like the psalmist, I find His thoughts are deeply personal, intentional and precious.
Precious (adjective) – (of an object, substance, or resource) of great value; not to be wasted or treated carelessly.
God’s Word, reveals a lot about His thinking.
“I love you. Always.” (Romans 8:38-39)
“My promises are specially crafted for each one of your circumstances.” (2 Peter 1:3-4)
“As the sun rises, so does my mercy. I know how much you need it.” (Lamentations 2:22-23)
“Trust Me. I’ve finished the end from the beginning.” (Isaiah 46:9-10)
The time of day or the temperature in a room may affect my thinking. But God’s thoughts are not fleeting ideas. They are eternal truths to be cherished.
What God thinks, He says and what He says, He does.
Whose thoughts are precious to you? I love hearing the heart of my husband. His words make me smile. But precious thoughts from powerful God are life-giving and life-changing. They make me redeemed. Renewed. Restored.
Even when God’s thoughts are a mystery, they are certainly holy. They speak of His faithfulness and love. His thoughts can never be wasted; they can only be fulfilled.
No one is smarter, wiser or mightier. Whether circumstances demand our decisions or our memories create tension, He welcomes our call.
‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’ - Jeremiah 33:3 MSG
From parenting to publishing, I’ve got a lot to figure out these days. Maybe you do too. And yet, as I follow Christ, He reveals His thoughts to me. (1 Corinthians 2:15-16)
Sometimes my emotions send mixed signals. But as I check for clarity in Scripture, I see a comforting sign. God is not just thinking of us, He is with us — every moment of every day.
He wants us to be with Him too. He wants to show us His glory. How will we respond to the precious thoughts of the all-powerful God?
I’d love to sit on the beach and contemplate His wonder while counting a few grains of sand. But if I can’t get to the beach, I can still get into His Presence. With Him all things are possible, including hope for the heart and joy to the soul.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT).

It is so comforting to remember that God is with us always and thinking precious thoughts toward us. His thoughts are better than we could ever imagine because they are beyond our finite minds. Thanks Joy.

I am so glad that his presence is always there. I love reading the Psalms. As a person who loves writing poetry, those books truly speak to me. Blessed to be your neighbor at the Ra Ra linkup this week.

I love contemplating God at the beach too. there’s just something about the vastness of the ocean that brings it all so close… but yes, you are right, we don’t have to go anywhere to know the presence and power of our vast and amazing God!

Yes Karen – that’s for sure! Blessings to you — at the beach and anywhere else you experience His awesome Presence!
