Finding More Joy on Your Journey

Live Your Joy Story,  Living With Purpose
In addition to its focus on Valentine’s Day, February offers me a focus on legacy. As a descendant of enslaved Africans who never forgot their significance, I celebrate Black History month. We each have a story shaped by where we come from, what we’ve come through, and where we are...

7 Ways to Focus on the Joy of Christmas,  Guest Writers
It wasn’t even mid-October, and there it was displayed among the homes with pumpkins and other fall-themed decorations. A nativity scene beautifully adorned the yard of a house we pass every morning. Now I’ll admit, I chuckled and thought to myself, “They decorated a little early for Christmas.” However, my...

How will you let your light SHINE?

Live Your Joy Story,  Living With Purpose
As a child, the lyrics “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine” gave me a goal. Singers of the song are familiar with committing to shining “all in their home, on their jobs,” or in any other place they feel their shine matters. The song’s positive...

Living With Purpose,  Relationships
A mentor in our lives makes a difference. In them, we see a kindred soul with wisdom pouring from their heart. In us, they see an eager soul needing a nudge in the right direction. I received the nudge. And the more I gave my heart to God, the more...

A Season of Waiting
As I go to my favorite fast-food drive thru, I know I’ll have to wait. It is famous for an “all things chicken” menu, long lines, and waffle fries. But they have an efficient two-lane system that speeds things up a bit. Typically, a teenage face greets me and takes...

Joy to The Soul Summer
It’s the last week of this year’s “Joy to the Soul Summer” series. I’m grateful I’ve spent part of the season with you. What are you most grateful for this summer? It may be a seemingly simple joy or the reality of something grand. It’s likely reflecting over the last...

A Fresh Wind Blows through Friendship

All Things New,  Relationships
If a friend supports us through tough times, it’s a gift. I’ve had my share of both — good friends and tough times. And yet, ironically, the storms of life allow a fresh wind to blow through a friendship. It reminds us we’re not alone. It rushes in on the...

“I USED TO HAVE A PLAN…but life had other ideas.” It’s the title of a book that grabbed my attention in the bookstore this past weekend. Alessandra Olanow is the illustrator and author. The pages contain her drawings of weary souls or insightful sojourners, with captions of encouragement mixed with...

As we adjust to life’s challenges, change can qu As we adjust to life’s challenges, change can quickly bring us to new and necessary conclusions. But before the summer ends (and as fall begins), is there something we need to surrender to God?

In part 2 of this year's "Joy to the Soul Summer" series, I'm sharing a book review on Surrendering Certainty, Hearing God Today by Letting Go of Tomorrow by @abbymcdonaldwriter.

Navigating relationships and hardships may mean I need more patience. Cultivating dreams or linking purpose to plans may require me to have more courage. Any of these things can easily fill our minds. But how easily do we hand them over to God?

Thankfully, Abby reminds us, "Jesus is not a Shepherd who leaves the pasture and expects us to have all the answers. He is the shepherd who stays, who guides us, and intercedes for us. He never stops."

Although His grace is a tremendous gift, how we view ourselves or others can complicate how we receive and share His grace.

On this audio teaching, my story of childhood trauma provided me with some insight into what it feels like to be gripped by something other than grace. Link in profile!

EXCITING NEWS!!! A few years ago, I, along with o EXCITING NEWS!!! A few years ago, I, along with other writers on @proverbs31ministries' @first5app, wrote a Bible teaching entitled "Praying Through the Psalms."

God moved powerfully through that experience, and many women were drawn to prayer and what the practice could look like in their lives.

As a result, Thomas Nelson has published the accompanying study guide to include the First 5 teachings. I'm honored to be a part of this collaboration, and the updated version is officially here!
