Becoming Less Resistant to Change

BECOMING More Series
When this Becoming More series began, I planned post titles from January to December. This week’s post wasn’t one of them. Things change. In fact, a tug on my resistance to change was becoming more persistent in my heart. I sensed God pursuing my need to let some things go...

Affirmation
In my growing up years, three claps and a cheer signaled my firefighting dad was home. His applause was my cue to run and jump into his arms. It was our daddy-daughter celebration. As he completed another shift as a first responder, I welcomed his arrival and his affirmation. People...

A Season of Waiting
The power of a story wasn’t lost on Jesus. When people had questions about God’s Kingdom or needed life lessons, the Prince of Peace was also a master at parables. One of my favorites is “The Seed and The Sower” in Luke 8. It shows how God’s Word (the seed)...

BECOMING More Series,  In Difficult Times,  Live Your Joy Story
The word of the day on my dictionary app said JOMO. I wasn’t familiar with the term. But deeper reflection would reveal why I should become familiar with its benefits. It’s the acronym for “the joy of missing out.” I knew its more popular opposite, FOMO, “the fear of missing...

What was your last surprise? I hope it was something wonderful. But we can also be surprised when someone makes a puzzling choice or life begins to look like a puzzle where none of the pieces seem to fit. It’s puzzling in my world right now. I’m not at liberty...

A Season of Waiting
My brother, Michael, is the jokester in our family. One of his frequent comedic lines comes after holiday meals. I ask, “Michael would you like a slice of cherry pie?” He says, “No thanks. I’ll just have the whole pie.” He’s not kidding. My brother loves cherry pie. I feel...

BECOMING More Series
I’d rather gaze at a body of water than get stuck in the weeds far from the shore.  The sound of waves crashing or the sunlight shimmering on the liquid canvas calms the senses. The depths beneath the surface are teeming with possibilities. But weeds have possibilities too. They can...

Affirmation,  BECOMING More Series
In this last post of the 3 Ways to Focus on Renewal series, I see the wonder of Christ’s redemption. It changes the life of anyone who chooses to live for Him. But my flawed and fickle nature wants to live for itself. It seeks to rise to whatever makes...

As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my one-word. Alignment. But aligning with God’s will is a lifelong process of following Christ’s teachings by putting His will above my own. After all, alignment involves making adjustments so that something functions optimally within its intended design.

Surprisingly, my one word was both an invitation and an illumination. In my last post on the blog this year, I'm sharing lessons learned and the inspiration I found by God's grace. I pray you'll find encouragement in "5 Ways to End (or begin) the Year with Joy!" (Link in profile)

Is there something you’re counting on this Christm Is there something you’re counting on this Christmas?

Maybe you’re hoping for some time off work.

Perhaps you have travel plans or guests are traveling to spend time with you.

Some people are hoping to have a simple celebration.

And yet, others are busy preparing for festivities that no one will forget.

But for the Christ child’s parents, Mary and Joseph, what may have felt like a complication was really God’s invitation for them to experience His plan. (Luke 2:1-7)

Hence, the Advent season is more than a countdown to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Because He came, God no longer counts our sins against us as we receive Christ’s salvation. (2 Corinthians 5:19-21) There’s something to be sure of. But the Advent also points us to remember Jesus is coming again. (Matthew 24:23-31) This Christmas, may we each experience Him in the ways we need Him the most. #Advent #Christmas #christmastime🎄 #liveyourjoystory #joytothesoul
This crystal cross hangs near the top of our famil This crystal cross hangs near the top of our family Christmas tree. It’s a reminder of the reason for the Christ child’s birth. Redemption.

But as much as I love Christmas, I also remain amazed at how there’s so little I can be certain of from year to year. Between our news feeds, and the ups and downs of our hopes and dreams, it may be tempting to keep our expectations low. But the reason for the season is also the reason for great certainty.

It's the latest topic on the blog, because there is something we can be sure of this #Christmas!🎄 #joytothesoul #liveyourjoystory (Link in profile)
