A Season of Waiting,  In Difficult Times
On my childhood trips to the carnival, I hesitated to ride the Round Up. You may know it by other names, such as Meteor or Gravitron. As I entered the ride’s circular chamber and stood against the wall, I knew what was in store. Minutes after I slipped into a...

Living in Undeniable Grace

Affirmation,  Uncategorized
The life of Peter intrigues me. The fisherman’s journey to becoming a faithful Christ follower took a series of unexpected turns. From his first encounter with Jesus, life took on new meaning. After Peter fished for years, Jesus told him He’d make him a fisher of people. (Matthew 4:18-20) Peter...

Finding Something New in Our Prayers

All Things New,  Prayer Life
I want praying to be like breathing. The exhale of my sins and worries and the inhale of God’s grace and wisdom should flow freely between my heart to His. After all, He invites us to come boldly before His throne. (Hebrews 4:16) Believing hearts come. They come assured of...

Affirmation
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” (Psalm 139:14 ESV) Initially, “fearfully and wonderfully made” is not the way I would describe myself. “Made for fun and faith writing” are labels I would choose. And yet, the...

When We Have an “O God” Moment

In Difficult Times,  Prayer Life
A few months ago, my casual stroll past the seafood counter turned into a crisis. The sound of a screeching alarm told me something was wrong. Employees frantically waved their arms as they warned customers to leave the store right away. This was an O God moment. It wasn’t the...

In Difficult Times
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”  (Psalm 139:23-24 NLT) When the psalmist, David, invites God to search his heart, I feel an opportunity stirring in mine. We may be more...

All Things New,  Living With Purpose
It’s a New Year! But after last year, we may hesitate to call any year “happy” until it’s had the chance to prove it. Yet each year comes with its own set of unexpected challenges and welcome surprises. Opportunities and obstacles can appear on opposite sides of the same situation....

All Things New
TWAS THE YEAR 2020, A YEAR OF GREAT VISION, when the world was exposed to coronavirus transmission. Shaming and blaming became the quick fix. But such solutions proved the virus could not be tricked. Shutdowns followed and masks were adorned. The economy tanked, just like economists warned. The shutdowns lifted...

As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my one-word. Alignment. But aligning with God’s will is a lifelong process of following Christ’s teachings by putting His will above my own. After all, alignment involves making adjustments so that something functions optimally within its intended design.

Surprisingly, my one word was both an invitation and an illumination. In my last post on the blog this year, I'm sharing lessons learned and the inspiration I found by God's grace. I pray you'll find encouragement in "5 Ways to End (or begin) the Year with Joy!" (Link in profile)

Is there something you’re counting on this Christm Is there something you’re counting on this Christmas?

Maybe you’re hoping for some time off work.

Perhaps you have travel plans or guests are traveling to spend time with you.

Some people are hoping to have a simple celebration.

And yet, others are busy preparing for festivities that no one will forget.

But for the Christ child’s parents, Mary and Joseph, what may have felt like a complication was really God’s invitation for them to experience His plan. (Luke 2:1-7)

Hence, the Advent season is more than a countdown to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Because He came, God no longer counts our sins against us as we receive Christ’s salvation. (2 Corinthians 5:19-21) There’s something to be sure of. But the Advent also points us to remember Jesus is coming again. (Matthew 24:23-31) This Christmas, may we each experience Him in the ways we need Him the most. #Advent #Christmas #christmastime🎄 #liveyourjoystory #joytothesoul
This crystal cross hangs near the top of our famil This crystal cross hangs near the top of our family Christmas tree. It’s a reminder of the reason for the Christ child’s birth. Redemption.

But as much as I love Christmas, I also remain amazed at how there’s so little I can be certain of from year to year. Between our news feeds, and the ups and downs of our hopes and dreams, it may be tempting to keep our expectations low. But the reason for the season is also the reason for great certainty.

It's the latest topic on the blog, because there is something we can be sure of this #Christmas!🎄 #joytothesoul #liveyourjoystory (Link in profile)
