Scanning through my social media feed, the images of other lives are appealing. They feature sunsets in faraway places and meals prepared with culinary flair. Several posts offer insights on living life well or how to bounce back when we don’t. But a recent experience gave me a unique perspective...

The only thing I like more than a good recipe is a new good recipe. I often find them in my Pinterest feed. Each image lures me with the promise of being worth my effort. My recent favorites include salmon cakes with tartar sauce and Mahi Mahi with lemon garlic...

In Difficult Times,  Live Your Joy Story
In my quest for living a joyful life, there is a surprise when hard things come. Scripture puts it this way: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” (James 1:2‭ NIV). Wait a minute, James. Facing many kinds of trials puts me...

A Lenten Focus on Faithfulness,  All Things New
I love a term Alicia Britt Chole uses in her Lenten devotional, 40 Days of Decrease: A Different Kind of Hunger. A Different Kind of Fast. She describes the focus of Lent as “cross-ward” and beyond. The term emphasizes Christ’s journey toward Calvary’s cross and His ultimate sacrifice for our...

Live Your Joy Story,  The Gratitude Series
As Thanksgiving Day approaches, it’s common to check for an attitude of gratitude. It’s an uplifting mindset. But it’s not always an easy emotion. We may be thankful for some aspects of our lives and feel conflicted about other areas. But the bible says, “Be thankful in all circumstances, for...

Live Your Joy Story,  Living With Purpose,  Prayer Life
A common theme in fairytales involves three wishes. They are given to anyone who finds a genie in a bottle or a certain object with special powers. But at some point, the recipient makes a blunder. They waste a wish (or two) and end up being worse off than before...

Whenever a sound wave is reflected, we hear an echo. I dreaded this fact as my shoes clacked across the floor of my local library. At any moment, I expected someone to put their finger across their lips and shush me. To my surprise, there were no shushers. But I...

Live Your Joy Story,  Living With Purpose
In addition to its focus on Valentine’s Day, February offers me a focus on legacy. As a descendant of enslaved Africans who never forgot their significance, I celebrate Black History month. We each have a story shaped by where we come from, what we’ve come through, and where we are...

Many days, God's calling feels so much larger than my ability (the way I feel in front of this huge #SheSpeaks sign😊). But most days, my podium is my keyboard.

I'm honored to share biblical truth alongside real-life experiences on the @first5app, the #yourdailybibleverse podcast, the @youversion Bible app, and the #joytothesoul blog. I'm so grateful for this experience. The journey continues. #liveyourjoystory
