Every season has a unique vibe. Now it’s summer’s turn. Travel trends are at their peak. Something sleeveless with something denim is my biggest fashion statement. Hot days call me like an old friend, insisting I relax and sip lemonade.

The beach is my favorite place to dwell. And yet, summer is not my favorite season. I know it’s a crazy inconsistency; but autumn has always had my heart.

Life is funny that way.

We seldom have the choice of deciding which season we’re in — in nature or in our circumstances.

If I had my way, the beach’s climate would also welcome me in the fall. Life’s difficulties would get a huge gust of grace and quicker than I could say lemonade, my worries would turn into something wonderful.

And yet, whether we choose our current season or not, we can choose to be honest about the season.

We can choose to soul search and seek God.

We can maximize what is possible and discover simple (and even sacred) joys.

Summer, fall, winter and spring, issue me the same invitation. Choose authenticity. Choose to seek God. Choose joy.

The lazy days of summer are waiting to be filled with special memories, a sense of adventure and meeting cherished goals. Thankfully, when days are long and anxieties or temperatures rise, we can experience God as our calm and our confidence.

It’s a sacred choice; but it’s not always a simple one.

Soul searching from a porch swing can lead to more questions. Discussing headlines while hanging out with friends can turn into prayers or a heated debate. However, during summertime or uncertain times, He is the Architect of the seasons. I love how the psalmist celebrates this truth:

The day and the night are both Yours— You fashioned the sun, moon, and all the lights that pierce the darkness. You have arranged the earth, set all its boundaries; You are the Architect of the seasons: summer and winter. – Psalm 74:16 – 17 Voice

I’m following the psalmist’s lead and I’m celebrating Him too.

Welcome to “Joy to The Soul Summer!”

For the next six weeks, join me and a few writer friends, as we explore what makes summer good to the soul. We’ll share great summer book reads, wellness tips, ideas for gathering with friends and more.

What’s bringing joy to your soul this summer?

Is there a long-awaited vacation destination? Perhaps a new opportunity has your heart racing. Maybe your sunny days only exists on the weather forecast and you’re hoping you’ll find joy again soon.

If summer is your favorite season you’re in the right place.

If you’re in a tough season, this is an encouraging place.

We’ll explore life’s issues and summer’s simple joys as we look to the Architect. He orchestrates the seasons. He builds (and even rebuilds) our lives. After all, whether we’re on the beach, at the mountains or wanting our faith to move a mountain, He gives hope for the heart and joy to the soul.
