Becoming A Better Friend

BECOMING More Series,  Growing A Friendship Series
I love the gift of friendship. It connects me with people who get the vibe of my ever-changing life and I get the vibe of theirs — on most days. My earliest recollection of the gift is from preschool. My friend Melody and I played with miniature dolls and took...

The POWER of a Prayer Partnership

Growing A Friendship Series,  Prayer Life
Trust between two people is a treasured gift. Throw in a commitment to grow in Christ through prayer and you may have the makings of a prayer partnership. My first attempt many years ago fell flat. Neither my college roommate nor I felt comfortable praying out loud. Unfortunately, we didn’t...

Growing A Friendship Series,  Relationships
“A friend in need is a friend indeed.” I’m gaining new appreciation for this old adage. “Need” wrote its name across my heart weeks ago and my friends rose to the occasion. I wasn’t surprised. They are an amazing group of wise, compassionate and praying women. Each one responded based...

Growing A Friendship Series,  Lessons I've Learned (so far) Series,  Relationships
I cherish the friendships I’ve had through the years. However, some connections seem to fade over time. Other relationships deepen as we share life experiences because sharing is key to a friendship’s growth. You may be familiar with the saying “something is alive if it grows, breathes and eats.” It’s...

Growing A Friendship Series,  Lessons I've Learned (so far) Series
We can get by with a little help from our friends. But sometimes circumstances are dire and the assistance required is substantial. In Mark 2, a crippled man is unable to move. Perhaps he’s unable to speak. But he’s carried to Christ by his friends. "...Soon the crowd overflowed from...

Growing A Friendship Series,  Lessons I've Learned (so far) Series
Where I live, work and worship are integral to my routine.  My neighbors and I trade hellos. Coworkers and I meet deadlines. I share hugs and a hymn with fellow church members.  But in each case, the people would show up whether I was there or not. Because fellowship forms...

When Friendship Paints A Picture

Growing A Friendship Series
A friend loves at all times. – Proverbs 17:17 During her visit, a couple of months ago, my friend Kathy painted my front porch. It’s not typical houseguest behavior. But Kathy’s no houseguest. Her gift of a freshly painted porch was an extension of God’s grace. She loves to paint...

When A Friendship Shifts

Growing A Friendship Series,  POPULAR POSTS
I’m hopeful when a friendship begins. I’m grateful when a friendship grows. But I’m hurt and perplexed when a friendship shifts. During a recent conversation with a friend, awkwardness hung over every word. Our once familiar space felt foreign to me. It was evident our friendship was changing. We’ve been...

As we adjust to life’s challenges, change can qu As we adjust to life’s challenges, change can quickly bring us to new and necessary conclusions. But before the summer ends (and as fall begins), is there something we need to surrender to God?

In part 2 of this year's "Joy to the Soul Summer" series, I'm sharing a book review on Surrendering Certainty, Hearing God Today by Letting Go of Tomorrow by @abbymcdonaldwriter.

Navigating relationships and hardships may mean I need more patience. Cultivating dreams or linking purpose to plans may require me to have more courage. Any of these things can easily fill our minds. But how easily do we hand them over to God?

Thankfully, Abby reminds us, "Jesus is not a Shepherd who leaves the pasture and expects us to have all the answers. He is the shepherd who stays, who guides us, and intercedes for us. He never stops."

Although His grace is a tremendous gift, how we view ourselves or others can complicate how we receive and share His grace.

On this audio teaching, my story of childhood trauma provided me with some insight into what it feels like to be gripped by something other than grace. Link in profile!

EXCITING NEWS!!! A few years ago, I, along with o EXCITING NEWS!!! A few years ago, I, along with other writers on @proverbs31ministries' @first5app, wrote a Bible teaching entitled "Praying Through the Psalms."

God moved powerfully through that experience, and many women were drawn to prayer and what the practice could look like in their lives.

As a result, Thomas Nelson has published the accompanying study guide to include the First 5 teachings. I'm honored to be a part of this collaboration, and the updated version is officially here!
