Have you ever wondered how God would work a miracle in your life? I have. Mary, the mother of Jesus, wondered too.

“And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35 ESV)

As the Holy Spirit hovered over Mary, the Christ Child was conceived. The Immaculate Conception was the crescendo of the Trinity’s love for humanity.

Knowing the depth of our sin and the cost of Christ coming near, God sent His only Son to save us. And when Christ died for our sins, a chasm closed. (Ephesians 2:12-14)

Whether it’s God reaching down to humanity or humanity reaching out to each other, love always bridges the distance.

In our often loveless world, division threatens what binds us. But God’s love offers to heal us. It is the first fruit mentioned among the Spirit’s fruit. (Galatians 5:22-23)

This Christmas, among festive decorations and familiar carols, may we sense God’s heart toward us and toward others. He meets us where we are, whether we feel merry this time of year or not.

The Holy Spirit still hovers, but He also dwells in every heart that receives Christ. He’s not attempting another Immaculate Conception. He is revealing who Jesus is to you and me. (John 15:26)

As we believe His truth, whatever miracle we long for, His grace is always enough to bridge the distance.
