Why Release Is a Good Place to Rest

A Season of Waiting
Release is my one-word for the year. Like new, momentum and miracle from previous years, this word comes with a rescue. Remembering a walk with my sister’s dog helped me see the necessity. Buddy is a mild-mannered English pit bull, most of the time. But when he saw a rabbit,...

7 Ways to Focus on the Joy of Christmas
At Christmas, I love getting greetings in the mail from family and friends. One card began with familiar words. “Peace on earth and goodwill toward men” was scrolled in metallic gold across a midnight sky. The beauty of the image is a bold statement. God’s grace is a sharp contrast...

Relationships
As soon as we find out about a clothing drive, I see a glint in my husband’s eye. Brady is a sorter. But I’m sentimental. It’s not that I don’t want to give to someone in need. God’s love compels me to do that. But as I look through my...

The most important button on any electrical device is the “on” switch. Just try operating anything without it. But the control panel is where the action is. Everything from volume to special features is just a tap, click or turn of a knob away. It’s one thing if we’re talking...

“I USED TO HAVE A PLAN…but life had other ideas.” It’s the title of a book that grabbed my attention in the bookstore this past weekend. Alessandra Olanow is the illustrator and author. The pages contain her drawings of weary souls or insightful sojourners, with captions of encouragement mixed with...

When We Have an “O God” Moment

In Difficult Times,  Prayer Life
A few months ago, my casual stroll past the seafood counter turned into a crisis. The sound of a screeching alarm told me something was wrong. Employees frantically waved their arms as they warned customers to leave the store right away. This was an O God moment. It wasn’t the...

In Difficult Times
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”  (Psalm 139:23-24 NLT) When the psalmist, David, invites God to search his heart, I feel an opportunity stirring in mine. We may be more...

As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my one-word. Alignment. But aligning with God’s will is a lifelong process of following Christ’s teachings by putting His will above my own. After all, alignment involves making adjustments so that something functions optimally within its intended design.

Surprisingly, my one word was both an invitation and an illumination. In my last post on the blog this year, I'm sharing lessons learned and the inspiration I found by God's grace. I pray you'll find encouragement in "5 Ways to End (or begin) the Year with Joy!" (Link in profile)

Is there something you’re counting on this Christm Is there something you’re counting on this Christmas?

Maybe you’re hoping for some time off work.

Perhaps you have travel plans or guests are traveling to spend time with you.

Some people are hoping to have a simple celebration.

And yet, others are busy preparing for festivities that no one will forget.

But for the Christ child’s parents, Mary and Joseph, what may have felt like a complication was really God’s invitation for them to experience His plan. (Luke 2:1-7)

Hence, the Advent season is more than a countdown to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Because He came, God no longer counts our sins against us as we receive Christ’s salvation. (2 Corinthians 5:19-21) There’s something to be sure of. But the Advent also points us to remember Jesus is coming again. (Matthew 24:23-31) This Christmas, may we each experience Him in the ways we need Him the most. #Advent #Christmas #christmastime🎄 #liveyourjoystory #joytothesoul
This crystal cross hangs near the top of our famil This crystal cross hangs near the top of our family Christmas tree. It’s a reminder of the reason for the Christ child’s birth. Redemption.

But as much as I love Christmas, I also remain amazed at how there’s so little I can be certain of from year to year. Between our news feeds, and the ups and downs of our hopes and dreams, it may be tempting to keep our expectations low. But the reason for the season is also the reason for great certainty.

It's the latest topic on the blog, because there is something we can be sure of this #Christmas!🎄 #joytothesoul #liveyourjoystory (Link in profile)
