A Lenten Focus on Faithfulness
Hello friends!  I’ve missed you.  It’s good to be back. The last time we met it was the beginning of Lent, the season of sacrifice and reflection on the life, death and resurrection of Christ. As I reflected, I sensed the need to fast from my familiar routine. This meant...

Women in the Bible
Picture living in the most ideal place with the most ideal person. There’s not a cloud in the sky. No awkward misunderstandings. No sin to confess in your conversations with God. This existence was Eve’s great privilege. But somehow a crack appeared in Eve’s soul. Discernment leaked out. Otherwise, she...

A Season of Waiting
It feels like a month of motion on this blog. First, we said so long to sidetracked. Then we realized our dreams may come with drama, but we must have determination. Last week, I asked, “Is momentum on your side? But this week we’re looking at the significance of slow and steady....

Lessons I've Learned (so far) Series
My junior year in college, my roommate’s name was Grace.  From a spiritual perspective, it made sense. Grace and Joy should dwell in the same space. Our delightful names and smiling faces convinced everyone our room was a happy place. But, the atmosphere in our dorm room was dismal. Much...

Lessons I've Learned (so far) Series
My friends and I often speak about our need for greater focus. So when I asked one for help with a project, she said, “No.” As she explained her commitments, I knew she was at full capacity. Normally, I’d be disappointed. But this time was different. I knew her “no”...

Lessons I've Learned (so far) Series,  Relationships
When was the last time someone hurt your feelings or made you mad? Sooner or later, we’re all on someone’s list. Our human nature guarantees it. We’re each a work in progress. And in the process, we can be less than sincere and more than someone else can handle. But...

Lessons I've Learned (so far) Series
Sudden loss is heartbreaking. It’s not always due to death. Loss of time, a dream or a loss of control brings its own sense of grief or frustration. These losses became the conversation between my friend and me. She wondered if an opportunity would loop through her life again or...

When Loss Begins to Linger

Lessons I've Learned (so far) Series
I’m praying for those who lost loved ones due to recent violence and natural disasters. Sadly, loss comes to us all. Then it begins to linger. Owning my despair acknowledges the magnitude of my loss. But if I deny my despair, eventually it owns me. Years ago, when my mother...

As we adjust to life’s challenges, change can qu As we adjust to life’s challenges, change can quickly bring us to new and necessary conclusions. But before the summer ends (and as fall begins), is there something we need to surrender to God?

In part 2 of this year's "Joy to the Soul Summer" series, I'm sharing a book review on Surrendering Certainty, Hearing God Today by Letting Go of Tomorrow by @abbymcdonaldwriter.

Navigating relationships and hardships may mean I need more patience. Cultivating dreams or linking purpose to plans may require me to have more courage. Any of these things can easily fill our minds. But how easily do we hand them over to God?

Thankfully, Abby reminds us, "Jesus is not a Shepherd who leaves the pasture and expects us to have all the answers. He is the shepherd who stays, who guides us, and intercedes for us. He never stops."

Although His grace is a tremendous gift, how we view ourselves or others can complicate how we receive and share His grace.

On this audio teaching, my story of childhood trauma provided me with some insight into what it feels like to be gripped by something other than grace. Link in profile!

EXCITING NEWS!!! A few years ago, I, along with o EXCITING NEWS!!! A few years ago, I, along with other writers on @proverbs31ministries' @first5app, wrote a Bible teaching entitled "Praying Through the Psalms."

God moved powerfully through that experience, and many women were drawn to prayer and what the practice could look like in their lives.

As a result, Thomas Nelson has published the accompanying study guide to include the First 5 teachings. I'm honored to be a part of this collaboration, and the updated version is officially here!
