Lessons I've Learned (so far) Series
My dad wore the smell of smoke like a business suit.  He was a firefighter.  As he battled the flames that threatened people’s lives, he brought the fumes of his heroism home. Before his death two years ago, I asked what made him successful through 28 years of service.  I...

Macaroni and cheese is one of the happiest pasta dishes I know. It’s one of my family’s favorites.  I’m gushing just thinking about their grins around the table.  But more than that, this recipe always makes me think of my mom — because I got it from her. My cooking...

Affirmation,  Next Step Series
You may be familiar with the game “Two Truths and A Lie.”  It’s a familiar icebreaker where participants tell two facts and one falsehood about themselves. The game allows members of a group to get to know each other with a few laughs along the way. I don’t do well...

Everyone Needs a Wingman

It's Time to FLY
A wing-man (or wing-woman) is a person who supports someone else on a potentially dangerous flight mission. I don’t have a pilot’s license, but I’ve had a few “dangerous missions” (at least they seemed so at the time). I’ve navigated through relationship drama, career decisions, financial upheaval and several other...

Growing A Friendship Series,  POPULAR POSTS
I’m hopeful when a friendship begins. I’m grateful when a friendship grows. But I’m hurt and perplexed when a friendship shifts. During a recent conversation with a friend, awkwardness hung over every word. Our once familiar space felt foreign to me. It was evident our friendship was changing. We’ve been...

As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my one-word. Alignment. But aligning with God’s will is a lifelong process of following Christ’s teachings by putting His will above my own. After all, alignment involves making adjustments so that something functions optimally within its intended design.

Surprisingly, my one word was both an invitation and an illumination. In my last post on the blog this year, I'm sharing lessons learned and the inspiration I found by God's grace. I pray you'll find encouragement in "5 Ways to End (or begin) the Year with Joy!" (Link in profile)

Is there something you’re counting on this Christm Is there something you’re counting on this Christmas?

Maybe you’re hoping for some time off work.

Perhaps you have travel plans or guests are traveling to spend time with you.

Some people are hoping to have a simple celebration.

And yet, others are busy preparing for festivities that no one will forget.

But for the Christ child’s parents, Mary and Joseph, what may have felt like a complication was really God’s invitation for them to experience His plan. (Luke 2:1-7)

Hence, the Advent season is more than a countdown to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Because He came, God no longer counts our sins against us as we receive Christ’s salvation. (2 Corinthians 5:19-21) There’s something to be sure of. But the Advent also points us to remember Jesus is coming again. (Matthew 24:23-31) This Christmas, may we each experience Him in the ways we need Him the most. #Advent #Christmas #christmastime🎄 #liveyourjoystory #joytothesoul
This crystal cross hangs near the top of our famil This crystal cross hangs near the top of our family Christmas tree. It’s a reminder of the reason for the Christ child’s birth. Redemption.

But as much as I love Christmas, I also remain amazed at how there’s so little I can be certain of from year to year. Between our news feeds, and the ups and downs of our hopes and dreams, it may be tempting to keep our expectations low. But the reason for the season is also the reason for great certainty.

It's the latest topic on the blog, because there is something we can be sure of this #Christmas!🎄 #joytothesoul #liveyourjoystory (Link in profile)
